Hiring the perfect person to complement your team is difficult. There are so many resumes out there representing such a wide array of personality types, experience levels and skill sets. And when sorting through all the options to find the top-level talent you’re looking for, you need to narrow down to the people who have the right outlooks and abilities that can help your company grow.
This is far easier said than done, of course. So, what kinds of things should you be offering or talking about to draw in the people who will best help your business? To find out, we asked members of Forbes Agency Council to weigh in on what they find particularly valuable for attracting top talent to their team. Here’s what they had to say:
1. Making A Positive Difference
Purpose, humility and flexibility: People want to work on projects that make a positive difference in other people’s lives and this is especially true in healthcare. I believe every team member is important to the success of the entire team and our clients. Additionally, learning is a life-long habit that requires us to be flexible and integrate new ways of working. – Violet Aldaia, Daggerwing Health
2. Voice In Planning
The ability to participate in a profit plan is key. Smart people like to be engaged beyond just their work. Attracting talent and allowing them to participate in the planning and thinking of the wider enterprise is more than just democracy in action, it is wise to tap into the power of people, especially if they bring different and valuable perspectives to the table. No one has sole license on brains. – Alexei Orlov, mtm choice
3. Purpose And Excitement
The biggest benefit we could possibly offer was a clear mission and the freedom to contribute to our journey. It gives our team members a sense of purpose and instills excitement in them about being able to grow with our company. – Adam Guild, Placepull
4. Passion
The single most powerful and attractive benefit is passion. When you can clearly and powerfully communicate why and what you are building and offer a candidate a seat at that table, not only will you find top talent, but you’ll also find the right talent. – Mark Bubula, Friends & Neighbors
5. Trust And Flexibility
We created the work environment that resembles a place that we’ve always wanted to work. We trusted our team and provided a lot of flexibility with our work hours, remote working and vacations. We focused on the results and attracted talent that are independent and accountable with an entrepreneurial mindset. – Vicky Boudreau, Bicom

6. Opportunities And Exposure
It’s more than just the benefits: It’s also about the opportunity and exposure they would get by taking on some challenging projects and having their name on it. We adopted some of the major Fortune 500 companies’ culture and created our own. As a creative agency, we give every employee the tools and connections to perform and become their best while growing personally and benefiting our company from the inside out. – Gary Vela, Web Daytona
